About Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS)

Bespoke Movement Rehabilitation

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS) is a pioneering approach to movement training and rehabilitation, developed by Prof. Pavel Kolar from the Prague School of Rehabilitation. Grounded in the research of internationally renowned neurologists, DNS is designed to restore natural movement patterns, improve core stability, and enhance overall physical performance.

What is DNS Training?

DNS, or Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation, focuses on retraining the body to move efficiently and effectively by tapping into the nervous system's innate ability to control movement. This method is based on the natural motor development that occurs in the first year of life, helping to reinforce the original movement patterns that are essential for healthy, pain-free movement. DNS is not merely about exercises; it's about understanding and reactivating the body’s inherent motor control, ensuring that muscles work in harmony—at the right intensity, with the correct timing, and in the right combination.

Why is Efficient Movement Important?

Efficient movement is crucial to overall physical health. When your muscles work as they are designed to—at the right time, with the right intensity, and in the correct combinations—you reduce the risk of injury, minimise unnecessary tension, and optimise performance. DNS training focuses on achieving this efficiency by restoring natural movement patterns, ensuring that your body functions at its best during any activity, from daily tasks to high-level athletic performance.

The Importance of Trunk Stabilisation

Trunk stabilisation, often referred to as "core stability," is vital for maintaining optimal posture, balance, and movement. Unlike traditional methods that often focus on superficial muscle engagement, DNS emphasises the coordinated, subconscious activation of deep core muscles, including the diaphragm and pelvic floor. This approach ensures that your trunk provides the necessary support for your spine and limbs, allowing for smooth, efficient movement and reducing the risk of pain or injury.

In DNS training, proper core activation is integrated with your breathing patterns, making it an automatic, second-nature process—much like breathing or brushing your teeth. This automatic stability is crucial for both everyday activities and athletic tasks, helping you maintain alignment, reduce wear-and-tear on your joints, and enhance overall performance.

Your DNS Assessment and Training

During your initial assessment and subsequent training sessions, a DNS trainer will guide you in achieving proper core stabilisation and posture, with a strong emphasis on optimal respiratory patterns. You’ll learn to recognise and correct common movement errors, ensuring that you do not reinforce incorrect patterns.

Your trainer will help you access your central nervous system by utilising specific body support zones during individually prescribed exercises. Each session is designed to progressively build on your stability and mobility, tailored to your specific needs and goals.

Why is DNS Different?

What sets DNS apart is its focus on reinforcing the original movement patterns that we all naturally followed during the first year of life—from birth to crawling, standing, and walking. These foundational movements are hardwired into our brains, and DNS helps adults tap back into these patterns to restore optimal stability, alignment, and posture.

By revisiting these natural positions, DNS training helps you regenerate and remind your body of the most efficient movement strategies, ensuring that you maintain pain-free, functional movement throughout your life. The approach is simple, safe, and suitable for all ages and activity levels, with exercises that are gradually increased in complexity and intensity as you progress.

DNS: It’s in Your DNA

Utilising DNS training helps you reconnect with the natural, efficient movement patterns that are hardwired into your DNA. This method not only improves movement efficiency but also promotes long-term health and performance. Suitable for all ages and activity levels, DNS is the key to moving better, feeling better, and living better.
